There’s something about summer that always feels full of possibility. The days are longer, the garden is greener, and even the simplest moments somehow feel a little more special.
We actually had our main family holiday earlier this year, enjoying a lovely spring break in May, so this summer will be less about big trips and more about making the most of weekends, sunny afternoons and local adventures.
As we settle into the season, I thought I’d share a few of the things I’m looking forward to over the next few months.
Visiting the Zoo

One of the things I’m most excited about is taking my little girl to the zoo.
Like many toddlers, she’s fascinated by animals at the moment, and I can’t wait for her to see some of them in real life rather than just in books and on television. We’re hoping to visit Howletts Wild Animal Park, which has always been one of my favourite family-friendly attractions in Kent.
I’m looking forward to seeing her reactions, hearing all the excited chatter, and watching her experience something completely new.
More Visits to the Farm

We’re lucky enough to live close to Barleylands Farm Park, so I’m sure we’ll find ourselves there a few times over the summer too.
It’s one of those places that’s perfect for a morning out with young children. There are animals to meet, outdoor spaces to explore and plenty to keep little ones entertained without feeling overwhelming.
Sometimes it’s the places close to home that end up creating the best memories.
Reading in the Garden

I’ve built up quite a collection of books that I’m hoping to work through this summer, and there’s nothing I enjoy more than sitting outside with a good book and a coffee.
I always imagine I’ll fly through my reading list during the warmer months, although the reality is usually a few pages here and there between work, family life and everyday responsibilities.
Still, even twenty minutes in the garden with a book feels like a little luxury.
Spending More Time Outdoors

One of my goals this summer is simply to be outside more.
Whether that’s an afternoon in the garden, a walk around a local nature reserve, a trip to the park or just enjoying a coffee in the morning sunshine, I always notice a difference in my mood when I spend more time outdoors.
It’s easy to get caught up in screens, to-do lists and daily routines, so I’m hoping to slow down and appreciate the season a little more this year.
Creating More Content

I’ve also been trying to spend more time writing, blogging and creating content again.
For a long time, life felt very full with work, motherhood and everything else that comes with adulthood. Recently, though, I’ve started finding little pockets of time to be creative again, and I’ve really enjoyed returning to hobbies that once played a much bigger role in my life.
I’d love to share more book reviews, family days out, home projects and seasonal inspiration over the coming months.
Looking Ahead to Autumn
As much as I love summer, I have to admit that part of me is already looking forward to autumn too.
We have a trip to Butlins planned for October, which gives us something lovely to look forward to later in the year. Anyone who knows me will know that I’m always ready for cosy season long before it actually arrives!
For now, though, I’m trying to enjoy the sunshine, appreciate the slower pace and make the most of the simple things.
Summer doesn’t have to be packed with expensive holidays or elaborate plans to be memorable.
Sometimes the best moments come from a trip to the farm, an afternoon in the garden, a good book, an ice cream on a sunny day or watching your little girl discover something new for the very first time.
Here’s to a summer filled with simple pleasures, family adventures and plenty of happy memories.
