Next weekend I’m going to the Ice Bar in London with my friends to celebrate my Birthday. I’m literally SO excited! I always see photos on my Facebook newsfeed of friends dressed up in the metallic blue cloaks sipping out if ice glasses and it just looks like such a great experience. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a picture that I found on Google Images… I’ve covered up the peoples faces to protect their privacy!
If you know me, then you’ll know I love to have things all matchy-matchy. Sometimes it’s a coincidence but most of the time it’s planned, teehee! 😀 So I thought I’d find myself a metallic blue nail varnish – seeing as most of my clothes would be covered up!
I looked in my favourite shop (Superdrug) and found lots of different brands; some had glitter, some were matte and most were quite plain.. But then I found a magnetic blue nail varnish by Sally Hansen that I thought looked ideal.
I’ve used the Barry M magnetic nail varnishes before and they’ve been very good, but I’ve always found Sally Hansen varnishes to be a bit more hard-wearing, so I thought I would go ahead and try it!
I put a clear base coat of varnish onto my nails before using this one and worked on one nail at a time, so that I didn’t run the risk of the nail drying before I had chance to use the magnet. You also need to give the bottle a good shake before you use it so that the tiny iron filings in the liquid can be distributed evenly.
The varnish went on very smoothly and the colour was very rich. I found it very frustrating though that I kept having to open and close the bottle so that I could use the magnet. I almost wish that the magnet could unclip from the lid so that it could be used separately… The magnet itself is very comfortable to use, it has a lip that you can rest against your finger, setting it at the perfect distance away from your nail. It isn’t a very strong magnet and I found it best to roll the finger, so that the entire nail gets exposed to it.
Finally I used a clear top coat to give it extra shine. I’m pretty happy with the results! What do you think?
UPDATE: contrary to my previous thoughts, the magnetic lid IS removable…
